WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY:

Argonaut & Wasp released their debut album “STARLIGHT 99” earlier this month and if you haven’t checked it out yet, you’re seriously missing out. The 15-track album covers some of the best indie-electronic records we’ve heard in years. Not only does it showcase the best of the best of the band’s work but it highlights the incredible journey these guys have endured. Here’s what they have to say about the new album:

"We formed Argonaut & Wasp over a love for house/dance music while living in Burlington, VT. We were part of a thriving jam scene, but we never really fit in. When we moved to Brooklyn in 2015, we found inspiration from the city itself and the different vibrant scenes within it. Our sound has developed into something that combines the rhythm and energy from house music, takes cues from the jam/funk scene, and incorporates our love for the 'leave everything on the table' attitude of NYC.

This album was written (for the most part) during lockdown which allowed us some time to reflect and take a break from the grind of shows & touring. We named it STARLIGHT 99 since the album is about looking up and seeing beyond your world; to not only see the bigger picture but to become a part of it. As we go through paradigm shifts in our culture and environment - we hope this album can offer a liberating perspective to guide our listeners into our collective new & unprecedented future. We wrote 99 songs, these are the 15 that made it.

Drawing on musical inspiration across decades - 70s rock n roll, 80s synths, 90s-2000's house - we picked out our favorite parts & added some Brooklyn, NYC flair to create our first truly cohesive body of work and debut album. This album is Argonaut & Wasp."

Accompanying the new album is a music video for “Dog Days” and could only be described as nostalgic and dreamy. Sara Phillips is no stranger to the Gems & Secrets platform (and for good reason). With the release of her new single, titled “nobody loves you”, the artist pens her most intimate work to date. The raw and emotional journey behind the new single is enough to captivate just about any listener. Whether old or new, Sara’s ability to write and convey such rich emotions through her lyricism continues to impress us. For us, it speaks to the growth and talent behind Sara’s journey and the authenticity of her art. And that says a lot in itself.

We look forward to eventually sitting down with the artist for an interview, too. We’ve been fans of Olive B’s work since the release of “Fine Wine” back in 2018. Today, the talented singer / songwriter remains as an all time favorite of the Gems & Secrets platform. And after a nearly 2 year hiatus, we are absolutely thrilled to share the latest and greatest from the musician with you. In collaboration with longtime producer and friend, Bobby Love, Olive B pens an intimate open letter about the conversations one may have with a partner, regardless of the type of engagement.

This is perhaps one of the many great talents Olive B possesses.
